I. Reasons for Water Intrusion into the Diesel Generator Set Enclosure:
Typically, a qualified diesel generator set’s fuel tank will be free of impurities and moisture when it leaves the factory. However, during transportation and storage, dust, dirt, and moisture may inevitably get mixed in to some extent—especially when the fuel tank is not fully filled, as moisture in the air inside the tank can easily condense into droplets and contaminate the fuel.
II. How can we prevent water from entering the diesel generator set enclosure? First, we should pay attention to the following aspects during both use and storage:
— The fuel must be stored in the fuel tank for at least 24 hours to allow water and impurities to settle before use.
— After each work session, try to fill the fuel tank completely. This will help prevent moisture from the air in the tank from mixing into the fuel.
— Before adding oil, make sure to clean the funnel and the end cap of the oil tank thoroughly. When using a hand pump, be careful not to draw up the sediment at the bottom along with the oil.
— Regularly open the drain plug on the generator set’s fuel tank to remove accumulated water and sediment.
